About
“If you don’t see it, become it. Build until a new way of being emerges- breathe everlasting life into it and when you are ready invite others to join the revolution.”
- Melody, Founder of Lacuna
For nearly two decades, I built my career as an accomplished HR executive in the global finance and retail industries, dedicated to developing leaders, fostering inclusivity, and fueling corporate success. I have a Masters Degree in HR Management from Cornell University and hold certifications in personality diagnostics, including Hogan HPI, Strengthsfinders, and ILS, as well as a coaching certificate from Columbia University.
From recent graduates to top-tier executives, I've seen talented women grapple with unseen barriers, compartmentalizing their lives to the point of misalignment between themselves, their wellbeing, and their purpose. This disconnect stole their joy, leaving them depleted, exhausted, and questioning their self-worth. I saw many of them encounter moments where they had lost sight of their path and struggled with self-limiting beliefs, truly doubting the power that they contained inside of them. When I finally looked in the mirror- I realized that I was them.
Ambition and motivation were not the problem, I needed the right combination of deep reflection, community support, and direction to be liberated from what held me back.
My story is not unlike so many amazing people that I’ve had the privilege to know. With few examples to follow as a diverse young woman from the Bronx, I built my life brick by brick, worked hard, kept my head down, and got into top schools and organizations that reflected my efforts. I knew that education and a respectable career were the only paths to freedom for someone like me, so I put all of my energy into creating a life that provided me with the privileges not enjoyed by my family or those in my childhood community. Throughout my professional journey, I struggled with many of the same things I saw in other women. I felt disconnected from what mattered most to me, constrained by self-doubt, and struggling to overcome personal barriers to living a truly fulfilling life. Years later, when I finally allowed myself to look up, my life was exactly as I had designed it, and yet I felt a lack; something was missing. In my relentless pursuit of success, I didn’t realize that my well-executed plan did not align with who I truly was -who I had grown to be—and it felt hollow somehow, soulless.
What was missing in my life was ME.
In my search to reimagine my story, and after experiencing much loss through the 2020 pandemic, I was compelled to change my life. Ambition and motivation were not the problem, I needed the right combination of deep reflection, community support, and direction to be liberated from what held me back. One of the tools that provided great clarity was positive psychology. I became a student of this field which focuses on promoting strengths and traits in support of human flourishing.
Contrary to what is often taught, this work does not center around faults or shortcomings, but instead on uplifting each unique journey and amplifying the best parts of ourselves. In my deep exploration, I uncovered my unique abilities in untangling complex problems, leading with compassion, and inspiring through communication. I looked around for spaces where I could leverage my abilities for good and found none. It was then that I realized-If you don’t see it, become it. Build until a new way of being emerges—breathe everlasting life into it and when you are ready, invite others to join the revolution.
